At Abels & Annes, P.C., we handle many cases involving various types of personal injury and wrongful death claims. We have recovered millions of dollars for our clients and their families.
The following is a list of more recent settlements made by our firm. We list results from large and small cases, as all of our clients are important to us.
$275,000 - Premises Liability. Settled case against a building owner when a minor child sustained severe eye injuries when she was pushed into a defectively designed lock box on an apartment door.
$95,000 - Pedestrian Auto Accident. A pedestrian was hit in a crosswalk and sustained ankle injuries from a car that was speeding in a parking lane while passing other stopped vehicles on the right.
$600,000 - Wrongful Death Auto Accident. A passenger was killed in a contested liability auto accident. Insurance policy limits of $500,000 was collected from one defendant, and the victim's un-insured motorist coverage of $100,000 was collected for the liability of the other defendant who was uninsured.
$85,000 - Premises Liability. A child incurred a facial laceration from a small nail protruding from a couch in a local coffee shop.
$25,000 - Workers' Compensation. A phone repairman injured his shoulder while lifting a heavy object at work. He suffered a small tear to his supraspinatus tendon that will not require surgery.
$17,000 - Auto Accident. Plaintiff incurred back and leg injuries when a car turning left failed to yield and struck his vehicle.
$20,000 - Premises Liability. Settled case against a grocery store where a Chicago resident cut his hand on glass that was protruding from a grocery cart handle.
$50,000 - Pedestrian Auto Accident. A pedestrian was hit by a car while standing in the street next to his stalled vehicle. He sustained a deep laceration to his leg and the case settled for insurance policy limits.
$235,000 - Premises Liability Wrongful Death. A woman called 911 while having a seizure in her apartment. When police and paramedics arrived, they were delayed several minutes because front desk security personnel were not present to let them in the building. The delay may have contributed to her passing away.
$45,000 - Workers' Compensation. Plaintiff lost his balance and fell off the back of a truck, injuring his back and left arm.
$15,000 - Auto Accident. Plaintiff sustained neck and knee injuries when her vehicle was rear-ended by another car.
$19,000 - Auto Accident. Plaintiff sustained neck and back injuries when his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver. The defendant fled the scene, our client called 911, and the defendant was caught after a police chase.
$10,000 - Pedestrian Auto Accident. The following is a very odd case. A woman was at home in bed when her elderly neighbor lost control of her car, drove through a wall of the house, and struck our client's bed. Our client only incurred minor injuries. The $10,000 settlement was in addition to the cost of property damage repairs.
$150,000 - Nursing Home Abuse. Our client, while in a coma, was neglected and not properly cared for. As a result he developed large bedsores all over his body that led to sepsis.
$15,000 - Auto Accident. Plaintiff sustained neck and back injuries when a defendant failed to yield and turned left into the path of our client's vehicle.
$95,000 - Premises Liability. A woman slipped and fell in front of an office building on an unnatural accumulation of ice. She fractured her ankle and had to have surgery.
$63,000 - Auto Accident. Our client was hospitalized with a leg fracture and severe chest pain in a contested liability auto accident case. The collision occurred while merging at the junction of the Kennedy and Edens Expressway. The $63,000 was awarded at a binding arbitration.
$115,000 - Premises Liability. Client sustained a herniated disk (un-operated) when she slipped and fell on water from a leaking pipe in a restaurant bathroom. The restaurant had notice of the condition and failed to act.
$76,000 - Premises Liability. Plaintiff tripped and fell and injured her knee on a cracked wooden stair leading to a parking lot of an apartment building. Our firm retained an expert to testify regarding inadequate lighting in the parking lot.
$40,000 - Pedestrian Auto Accident. Plaintiff struck by a car while crossing at a T-intersection in an un-marked crosswalk.
