Dave was born in Chicago and grew up in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1987. He was an avid hockey player and later became captain of Evanston’s high school hockey team.

In college, Dave continued to play hockey for the University of Wisconsin at Madison on the junior varsity team. In 1991, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UW Madison.

After college, Dave continued his education at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago. In 1994, he received his juris doctor degree from John Marshall and was sworn in to the Illinois Bar that same year. He is also a member of the Arizona State Bar.

Prior Legal Experience

Soon after becoming licensed in Illinois, Dave joined The Henry County State’s Attorney’s Office, in Cambridge, Illinois. There, he prosecuted traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases. He tried numerous bench trials and over 20 jury trials as an ASA.

His experience at the State’s Attorney’s Office was incredibly valuable for his legal career. Almost immediately after law school he was gaining experience that most lawyers don’t obtain until many years later. His courtroom battles prepared him well to fight for the rights of those seriously injured in accidents.

After leaving the State’s Attorney’s Office, Dave returned to Chicago and worked for a criminal defense firm. There he mainly worked on felony criminal cases in Cook County, Illinois. Most of his time was spent in the criminal courtrooms at 26th & California in Chicago.

In 1997, Dave decided that he wanted to spend his career in personal injury law where he could fight for the rights of accident victims. He went to work a personal injury law firm in Chicago and has been working on injury cases ever since. Later, he became a law partner at that firm.

Client Reviews

I had no trouble reaching my attorney at any time. I was always updated on the case. I could text him, call him, or leave him a message and he would get back to me.

Everything was pretty smooth and there was a lot of communication between my attorney and myself. I am really happy with my settlement and I got more than what I expected.

These guys were great to work with. At the end of the day, tough case and all, Abels & Annes helped us get enough to pay our bills and then some. My wife has now recovered and we are able to move forward without the cloud of a huge medical debt.

I would give Abels & Annes an A+, a 10, they have far exceeded my expectations. Professional, direct, very educated and very honest.

After contacting several law firms, I sent an email to Dave [Abels] and he responded fairly quickly, asked me several questions, and took the case straight away. From there forward, it was simple and easy.

They were very detailed and communicated well. I felt very secure with professional looking out for my interests. They didn’t talk down to me and explained things in terms I understood.
